Give-a-Weigh

Why I'm doing it

I want to lose weight so that I can just get out and enjoy life more. A lot of things I enjoy like hiking and playing sports are difficult at my weight… not that I let that stop me. Still though, it would be nice to have an easier time getting up mountains, or getting down in the hole to save a volleyball from becoming a point for the other team.

I also want to make sure I stay in good health for a long time. Other than my weight, I'm perfectly healthy right now, but the reality is that isn't going to last forever if I don't make some changes.

How I'm gonna do it

My formula to lose weight is easy to say, if not to do: burn more calories than I consume. People try to sell overweight people on all kinds of crazy schemes, pills, and devices, but ask any doctor (and I've asked mine): diet and exercise are the best way to do it. I've been lifting weights for a couple of months now, but as of the beginning of the Give-a-weigh event, I'll also be tracking my daily calorie intake using SparkPeople.

As part of this effort, I will be bringing my lunch to work most of the time, and cooking for myself a lot more. Aside from having health benefits, this is a good skill to have, and should save me a lot of money.

About me

I was born and raised in Arizona, though I've lived in other parts of the country, and even lived in Germany for about a year. I currently am a web developer at Synapse Studios. I also just graduated this May with a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I'll be returning to ASU in the fall to begin a master's degree program in mechanical engineering.

In those precious few moments when I'm not working either on homework or actually at work, I like spending time with my family and riding quads and listening to music. One of my major goals in the next few years is to get more travelling under my belt.
